Hammocks are the ultimate instrument for rest and relaxation in the midst of natural scenic beauty that can never be equaled indoors. The gently swaying suspended sling is the ideal resting seat for the weekend and during vacations. Hammocks can be used anywhere and everywhere from the backyard and garden to the beach or poolside, on hilltops or in the midst of the forest. Outdoor hammocks are available in all shapes designs and sizes, yet the common perception is that the hammock is an expensive accessory. But look closer and you will find how wrong you are. Hammocks can be really cheap provided you know ways to find the cheapest bargains. While the top brands sell their latest hammock creations for hundreds of dollars complete with frills and accessories, there are scores of hammocks that can be bought at cheap prices. Cheap does not necessarily mean buying an inferior hammock made out of substandard material, it may just be an tem of offer at a special discount, be part of a closing down sale, or a piece out of old stock that has to be cleared before the new stock for the season comes in. All this may simply mean not getting the latest manufactured hammock, but does not entail a compromise on quality. They also are the “no-frills” hammocks, which come bare with no spreader bars or stands.

Hammocks sold online provide some of the best bargains. This is because online stores have no overhead expenses and they buy at wholesale rates but pass on the benefit to the customer. They need to retain their clients on the basis of prices, quality and service, since they do not attractive stores that customers will walk into. Thus some of the best bargains on hammocks are found at amazon.com, eBay and so on. Brands like the Byer Traveller, Grand Trunk Ultra Light Hammock, and Mayan hammocks from Hamacas Rada are some of the hammocks available for less than $20.

Hammocks that are bought at cheap rates are more disposable that can be used and discarded since the amount spent on them is so little. This however, does not mean that they are not durable. Cheap hammocks are not essentially poor in quality, they are simply offered at a hefty discount for various reasons. Thus not wanting to spend more on a hammock does not mean compromising on the quality. Therefore it is preferable to buy good brands available on discounts, or buy at wholesale stores or even online where plenty of offers include rock bottom prices. Cheap hammocks can be picked only at specific times in the year especially during off-seasons when outlets are anxious to get rid of their stocks. Waiting patiently then is the key to a cheaper bargain.

Buying hammocks wholesale is the best way to get the cheapest hammocks even though it requires a minimum order of twenty or more hammocks. The suspended slings that make the most perfect hanging beds are not needed in such large numbers since they are durable and even if one hammock per family member is purchased the total requirement would seldom go beyond five or six. The concept of wholesale shopping helps to save money by buying a product in large quantities. Wholesalers make money by volumes rather than higher markups though they often sell individual pieces at the same wholesale rates. Wholesale rates are often up to 40% less than the retail rates for products. Therefore buying hammocks wholesale makes sense. The current craze for hammocks shows no signs of ebbing and their comfort indicates that hammocks are going to stay for outdoor relaxation at least. Homeowners and small families would have no use for 20 or more hammocks but they can benefit from the cost saving by roping in friends and family and place a large order and get it at wholesale rates. This might mean that a whole neighborhood may have the identical hammocks hanging in their gardens or backyards.

Wholesale hammocks purchase is ideal for resorts and hotels or people with multiple homes and large families. They can place their large orders with wholesale hammock stores or online on one of the hundreds of hammock websites. It is also possible to order customized hammocks with specific designs, styles and shades. Camping sites also require multiple hammocks especially if they provide such facilities rather than have campers carry their own. There are some websites, which would charge wholesale rates for even one or two hammocks. These are ideally suited for individual hammock customers.

All types of hammocks are available wholesale-rope, cotton, Mayan, jungle, Brazilian and all others. They can even be ordered from Brazil, Mexico or Venezuela where they are hand made with unique designs, and specific designs can be selected according to personal preference. All hammock accessories required would also be provided. The best part is that large orders are delivered free of cost and this helps the hassle of carting so many hammocks and also save on transportation.

The story of hammocks started over a thousand years ago somewhere in Central America, a region inhabited by the Mayan Indians. Trying to survive in the midst of tropical wetness and wild life, they discovered a novel method of resting suspended in the air, by hanging thick material like a sling. The material they used was woven out of the bark of the hamak tree since it was sturdy enough to hold the body weight of adults. An alternative emerged from the abundant sisal plant, which also became soft on rubbing and hence more comfortable to lie down in. Hammocks were a way of life and the frequent trading with other parts of South America led them to be adapted by thousands of native residents of these regions. Christopher Columbus is responsible for introducing hammocks to parts of Europe since he carried back hundreds of hammocks with him from the modern day Bahamas. The Europeans were floored by this unique concept and soon the hammocks began to be used for sleeping on ships while at sea. The sailors were relieved to get proper sleep and could carry this unique bed with them each time they set foot ashore. Thus the British and the French were all hooked to hammocks for life, and their use extended to cramped places and areas where more people had to be accommodated like prisons, war camps and similar places. By the nineteenth century their use had become very widespread.

The use of cloth and canvas had evolved to make them portable, space saving and lighter. The material used for making hammocks came to be determined by the climatic and environmental requirements of the region. Thus net or rope hammocks became popular in warmer areas where the gaps provided ventilation from below as well.

The Mayan region called Mexico was invaded by the Spaniards and they brought the cotton fiber with them and soon it began to be used for hammocks. Yucatan hammocks made in this region use some of the finest woven cotton. Similarly the hammocks woven in Venezuela have come to be known as jungle hammocks since they are meant for the tropical forests.

Hammocks began to be manufactured commercially in America in 1889 under the brand name Pawleys Island in South Carolina. Scores of factories sprang up across the globe but hand woven hammocks were always rated superior. Through out the world wars and other calamities hammocks continued to be used more as an instrument of relaxation and the seamen popularized it as a portable bed that could be carried everywhere. This led to the design of camping hammocks.

Hammock manufacturing became a flourishing business in the 1970s and there has been no looking back since. Cheap, comfortable, an ergonomic bed outdoors, it has been a fad almost all over the world. It has redefined the concept of recreation during holidays and vacations and has also eased the burden of back packers and campers. Its novel uses include hanging it close to the ceiling to store supplies to prevent insects or small animals from spoiling rations in forests. Hammocks have been considered safe for children to rest in outdoors without fear of their falling down.

Today hammocks are the perfect garden accessory, ideal for the patio or backyard, a balcony and even indoors. The therapeutic uses of hammocks have made them a bed substitute for people having backaches or sleep related problems. Hammocks with their gentle swaying motion make even the worst insomniacs fall asleep. The hammock is positively here to stay and its story is going to be one of the never-ending sagas.

Hammocks are perfect bed substitutes generally used outdoors for relaxation and have become synonymous with holiday fun on beaches, in camps and treks and even for picnics. A necessity for survival a couple of thousand years ago in damp, insect infected areas, hammocks have become a fashionable fad simply because of the comfort they offer besides being so convenient to use. A hammock is a simple, raised bed that is made out of fabric or rope and hung like a sling a few feet above the ground. Used for centuries in tropical regions and countries like Venezuela, Mexico and Brazil, the hammock has had diverse uses, and has evolved in design for each specific environment. It has served as a safe crib for babies in the midst of open fields, as a bed inside homes, as a sleeping place outdoors on treks, camps, picnics, on the beach, not to mention one’s own backyard and garden.

Over the years hammocks have become popular beyond doubt but this has also led to many myths being attached to them, most of which are far removed from reality. Myths about hammocks have also been perpetuated from generation to generation and though many defy all kinds of logical reasoning, they are difficult to shake off. However, it is important to reveal the reality that is in sharp contrast to the myth. The following are some of the most common myths associated with hammocks:
• Hammocks are meant for lazy people. This is just not true since hammocks serve everyone. People, who go on long treks down treacherous paths or go for rock climbing or mountain climbing expeditions, are far from lazy and yet use hammocks for sleep. Hammocks are merely an accessory for relaxation. They may just as well be suited for lazy afternoons but that does not restrict their usage.
• Hammocks are not safe. Nothing could be farthest from the truth. Hammocks are so safe that they are used for babies in open areas. This myth may have started due to a specific company designing a particular hammock that may have proved unsafe, but almost all other hammocks are so safe that an entire night can be spent in them and falling from them with their raised sides is virtually impossible. They are protective rather than unsafe.
• Cotton hammocks are the best. While cotton hammocks may be the most popular they cannot be rated as the best since rope hammocks and the modern ones made out of duracord have far more advantages that cotton hammocks do not have. Cotton hammocks are often not the final choice since they are not durable, fade easily and are not quick drying. They also become high maintenance and less portable.
• Hammocks can be left hung forever. This again is not correct since the durability of the hammock depends on how it is kept. Hammocks that are left hung outdoors are constantly exposed to the elements and this will weaken the rope or fabric and its constant exposure to the sun will make it less strong and firm. They would also get wet in the rain, fade under the sun and get flown by the wind.
• Hammocks are meant exclusively for outdoors. This is not rue from the time they were invented. Since the earliest times Venezuelans have used hammocks to raise entire families in them. They even have hooks permanently pushed into walls to hang them. Hammocks are great indoors as well and it is not unusual to find them in bedrooms replacing the bed, or can be found hung in corners devoted to reading and relaxation.
• Hammocks are expensive. Many people do not even consider buying hammocks since they have this notion that they are expensive. While some very expensive hammocks are available but a whole range of hammocks are available at very cheap rates. It is not difficult to find a hammock for as little as $15. Some of the cheapest hammocks are available online and discounts are frequently available.

These myths defy logical reasoning but do detract from the further popularity of the hammock. It is important to delve deeper into the truth before blindly believing a myth about a hammock.

Hammocks are the perfect garden relaxation equipment that help everyone recharge their energies after a hectic period of stressful work. These suspended slings that are typically fixed a few feet above the ground have a gentle swaying motion that is extremely soothing for the nerves and even lull you to sleep. The quality of sleep also is far superior to what you get in bed. This has made hammocks increasingly popular and we see them in gardens, by the pool and seaside, and in vacation hotspots.

While hammocks are not difficult to set up, it is important to put up hammocks correctly to ensure personal safety, prevent damage to property and the hammock and get the maximum comfort. Hammocks have to be tied very firmly either to trees or to poles fixed firmly to the ground with no fear of their getting uprooted with heavier weights. Hammocks fixed on stands just need to be placed in the proper manner.

The following steps need to be followed for setting up hammocks:
• Deciding on the place for putting up the hammock-Once a hammock has been purchased, you need to decide where you want to fix it. It can be on your own property in the garden, by the pool or on the patio. Here it can stay fitted for a prolonged period of time.
• Deciding what to tie the hammock to, trees or poles- If there are trees that the hammock can be tied to, they need to be 10-13 feet apart. The hammock then has to be hung on hooks that are at least six feet above the ground level for the correct suspension. It is important that the trees are living and firm with a bark that is at least six inches in diameter. However, in the absence of trees at the right distance, poles can be fixed in the ground but they must go at least 3 feet deep to provide proper firmness and be appropriately weight bearing. Once they have been placed 3 feet into the ground they have to be sealed with concrete, which then needs to dry for a week.
• Installing hooks- While hammocks can be tied to the trees with strong ropes, poles or posts would need to have some hooks on which the hammock can be hung. The hooks must be the screw variety that do not give way easily. Hooks can be pushed into tree trunks as well.
• Hang the hammock- Once the hooks are in place the hammock is ready for hanging and lying in. The loop ends simply need to be placed into the hooks, and at the end of the day the hammock can be easily removed and placed indoors to prolong its life.
• Camping- When hammocks are taken for camping trips or other picnics and day trips, hooks become cumbersome and it is preferable to tie strong ropes around the trees available. Nylon ropes are stronger than cotton ones, and a bowline knot can be made behind the tree, after the rope has been strung through the hammock loop. This type of knot will not open easily and is therefore secure.

Complete hammock set-up kits are also available with hammocks, which give detailed instructions along with all the equipment needed. Once the hammock has been fixed, it must be tried cautiously before it is used for lying down.

The world at large, looks at hammocks as an instrument of rest and relaxation, a reclining semi bed-like contraption meant for resting during the day, most generally outdoors. Hammocks are generally used for sleeping only on treks and camps when the prospect of sleeping on grass, moist ground with creatures crawling around does not appeal. Interestingly, the quality of sleep that such campers get is blissful and sound. Unfortunately, they never attribute it to the hammock and instead give credit to the level of fatigue that must have induced such sleep.

It is now a proven fact, and scientific research has proved beyond doubt that hammocks provide sleep of a different kind altogether. Scientists have found that the human body drifts into deep sleep in a hammock far more consistently than it does on a bed. Such sleep is certainly healthier for individuals and leaves their minds and bodies better rested and refreshed than the restless, disturbed sleep they might be getting in their beds.

Hammocks as a place to sleep in, evolved with people facing back problems in their beds and finding the daytime hammock experience more relaxing for the back. An experiment of spending the night in a hammock led to the realization that a bed is an unnecessary baggage, and the hammock the perfect place for the night, helping a sit does in regenerating the body and removing every trace of fatigue.

Sleep deprivation has been having disastrous effects on people with all kinds of problems like a weakening immune system, reduced metabolic functions, both of which lead to multiple health disorders. Besides, the mind is constantly tired and unable to concentrate, and productivity is substantially reduced. This then triggers a chain set of reactions, none of which are pleasant for the individual and his family. Remedial measures always include sleeping pills and other medication to get rid of the symptoms instead of considering options like changing the place one sleeps in. A chance attempt at spending the night in a hammock has made many such people realize how good it feels sleeping in a hammock. The hammock moulds itself to the body, provides the spine with the support it needs and the gentle swaying motion induces deep sleep. Hammocks are suspended in air and the individual gets the feeling of being in air as well, and the body does not feel any pressure on it. The end result is complete relaxation, which allows the mind to switch of and drift into slumber.

The benefits of sleep in a hammock has made thousands of people all over the world discard their beds and hang hammocks in their rooms. Statistical figures collected by hammock companies reveal that at least 10 million people use hammocks for sleeping in different parts of the world. The type of hammock selected varies according to individual preference, some have a distinct preference for Mayan hammocks, others prefer Brazilian ones and there are many who like Nicaraguan hammocks. The bottom line is that all users of hammocks for sleep have forgotten what it is to go through a sleepless night.

The spell binding view of the vast expanse of the sea, the cool refreshing breeze and the quiet surroundings are the best way to rejuvenate one mind and body. And to be able to enjoy all this from the comfort of a hammock enhances the pleasure manifold. All that it takes is a trip to the beach with a portable hammock that comes with a stand of its own, to be placed anywhere on the soft sands close to the water or away from it. Alternatively, they can be tied to trees in the vicinity or a one sided stand may be handy so that one end of the hammock can be tied to the tree and the other can be attached to the hammock stand and fixed in the sand. Beaches are generally activity packed places, and beach chairs never comfortable enough. Often the very purpose of a trip to the beach, that is, relaxation, remains unresolved. Hence the need for a hammock to provide complete relaxation, while remaining sand free a few feet above the ground.

While any type of hammock may suffice for the beach but the wind and the salty water of he sea can both damage the hammock and reduce its lasting value. Hence it is preferable to op for special beach hammocks, which are designed to bear the wear and tear caused by these natural factors. Beach hammocks are woven tighter and pure cotton rope is replaced by a vinyl coated polyester rope, which is better suited to stand the saltwater and the moisture laden breeze, along with the harsh sunrays. This rope even though sturdier remains soft, supple and gentle on the skin. An added advantage is that the polyester rope can resist mold and mildew unlike cotton rope, which is highly susceptible to them.

Another feature of beach hammocks is that the fabric must be breathable so that the moisture can dry out fast and the sun also cannot make them too hot. Exposed to rain and sunshine alternately, the fabric then will be able to handle both without getting damaged. A recent addition to the beach hammock range is jute hammocks. Jute is an all-natural material that has a rough earthy feel to it without being harsh to the body. They are sturdier and look beautiful in their earthy shades.

Some of the best hammocks available for beaches include Hatteras Hammocks, Hennessey Hammocks and the Original Pawleys Island hammocks or cheaper ones like Captain’s Line. All these are woven out of vinyl coated polyester yarn in bright as well as natural hues with colors remaining strong despite prolonged use. Portable hammocks and hammock chairs are other options. By and large, net hammocks are preferable to canvas hammocks. The hammocks can also be fitted with canopies to protect oneself from the sun and rain. All hammocks can be fitted with accessories like inflatable pillows, cushions, umbrellas and other convenient additions meant exclusively for hammocks. Some of the best bargains for beach hammocks are available online on multiple hammock websites.

A hammock is an ideal place to relax in, when beds are not available or accessible. It is also the best way to stay protected in places where creeping, crawling creatures may feast on the human body resting on the ground all night long. Hammocks are also popular as a garden accessory not for reasons of utility or necessity, but just for the sheer joy of unwinding during times of inactivity, in the midst of natural beauty.

There are various types of hammocks available and it is important to know one’s requirements before short-listing one for buying. The web offers a world of information on hammocks and browsing through various websites would help in finding the most appropriate hammock. Firstly, the customer needs to know the exact purpose of the hammock and where it has to be put up, whether it is needed in the garden, near the pool, on the terrace or verandah. For such requirements, the hammock need not be very light and even fabric or cloth hammocks may be just as suitable. Hammocks for indoors may also be similar, though perhaps coordinated with the colors of the room, except that they need not be water resistant or as tough as the ones needed for outdoors. Baby hammocks are a different category altogether. Choices would also have to be made whether one would prefer single, double or family hammocks. Another issue to consider is choosing between hammocks with stands that are self supporting, or those that can be hung from trees in the garden or poles around the pool.

The advantages of online purchase of hammocks can never be highlighted enough. Online ordering makes buying so simple and hassle-free that the customer couldn’t ask for more. Firstly, the websites offer each and every detail about their range of hammocks. They offer all possible colors and designs, and in case there is a specific color that the customer wants, they are willing to order it or even get it custom made specially. Their rates are far more competitive than any retail outlet in town, as they do not have any overhead expenses that need to be covered in the mark-up prices. All products come with guarantees connected to durability, color fastness, and quality. Above all, the final mouse click and payment may often bring free home delivery as well. Shopping could not have been made more convenient.

Other benefits of online ordering of hammocks come to the customer indirectly. Websites or online shops scour the world to find the various reliable varieties of hammocks, and offer them to clients. They also test products thoroughly as they have to offer quality wares to their customers to ensure that they return for more. Besides, if they are sure about the quality, they can offer the bait of buy back if the product does not meet customer expectations. As a result, the customer gets tried and tested products without any effort.

Online choices of hammocks are numerous. The basic string, rope or fabric hammocks of the Mayan, Brazilian or Venezuelan styles are adapted to make the following types:

* Classic- These are the simple hammocks that have been getting made for the last century in their simplest form that can be tied to trees or as stand alone hammocks, complete with stand and metal frame. These could be single, double or family size, quilted or plain.
* Cotton-All cotton hammocks are bright and colorful made out of dyed fabric, which is pure woven cotton. These can be of all sizes from single users to large family ones.
* Olefin Hammocks-These hammocks have a synthetic thread added to the traditional cotton hammocks and this makes them easy to maintain, quick drying, stain resistant and light weight despite being stronger and more weight bearing. They are supported by spreader bars.
* Mexican hammocks- Also called Mayan hammocks, they are the most soft and comfortable ones, giving the user the elevated feeling of floating in the air. They are traditionally hand woven out of the purest cotton, and are very colorful. Available in different sizes, they are popularly used all over the world.
* Chair hammocks-these are more for sitting down and reading in a reclined position, instead of a lateral position. Most generally, with strings that can be tied to a tree or other raised bars, they are generally without stands that can be placed to rest on the ground.

camping hammocks are another sought after variety, needed by back packers, trekkers and campers. The sites offer multiple lightweight travel hammocks as well. The best part of online shopping is the cost saving involved. Various discounts are offered over and above the reasonably priced hammocks. The economics of buying online is totally justifiable. The customer can read product reviews before making his final choice and even post his own query, which will be answered by expert panelists.

The list of different types of hammocks is endless as companies have created their own brands and variations and popularized them through advertisements. Some of the other hammocks available are tree hammocks, Duracord, Jobek, folding and rainbow rope, to name just a few. The sites offering hammocks online also offer all the accessories required, and details about setting them up. Additional tempting offers and freebies are given to customers from time to time, especially during the peak summer season, when people like to be outdoors. Some even provide repair services. All this makes the online purchase of hammocks the easiest way to own a hammock.
